U nás na Ústave molekulárnej fyziológie a genetiky skúmame nervové a srdcové bunky rôzneho pôvodu – niektoré sú izolované z laboratórnych zvierat, iné sú pripravené z ľudských kmeňových buniek.

Aký je prínos toho, že ešte aj dnes, keď sú dostupné kmeňové bunky a vieme z nich pripraviť nepreberné množstvo typov buniek, ešte stále pracujeme aj na laboratórnych zvieratách? Čo všetko vieme zistiť o fungovaní týchto buniek v laboratórnych podmienkach? Aký to má význam? Čo nám to môže priniesť v budúcnosti?

Kolegyne z Ústavu biochémie a genetiky živočíchov vám porozprávajú o tom, ako nám kvasinky pomáhajú odhaľovať tajomstvá života a tvoriť inovácie budúcnosti! Po stáročia boli tieto mikroorganizmy spájané najmä s potravinárstvom, dnes však zohrávajú významnú úlohu aj v základnom a aplikovanom výskume.

Predstavíme vám najvýznamnejšie kvasinkové organizmy a ich využitie pri odhaľovaní princípov fungovania života, ako aj pri produkcii priemyselne významných látok a biofarmaceutík. Dajú sa však kvasinky použiť pri objasňovaní mechanizmov základných bunkových procesov spojených so starnutím buniek a vznikom nádorových ochorení? Information: Learn about basic research on excitable cells – cells that exhibit electrical activity! It may seem that applied research is more important and has greater benefits than basic research, but every application is based on the findings of basic research. Here at the Institute of Molecular Physiology and Genetics, we study nerve and heart cells of various origins – some are isolated from laboratory animals, while others are derived from human stem cells. What is the benefit of continuing to work with laboratory animals even today, when stem cells are available and we know how to use them to produce an endless variety of cell types? What can we learn about how these cells function under laboratory conditions? What is the significance of this? What might this bring us in the future? Our colleagues from the Institute of Animal Biochemistry and Genetics will tell you how yeast helps us uncover the secrets of life and create the innovations of the future! For centuries, these microorganisms have been associated primarily with the food industry, but today they also play a significant role in basic and applied research. We will introduce you to the most important yeast organisms and their use in uncovering the principles of life, as well as in the production of industrially important substances and biopharmaceuticals. But can yeast be used to elucidate the mechanisms of fundamental cellular processes associated with cellular aging and the development of cancer? We’ll be happy to answer these and many other questions at the Center for Life Sciences booth!
